Students may transfer to West High program

Knox County students not zoned to West High School but interested in attending for its new International Baccalaureate program will soon have a chance to apply for one of about 80 slots reserved for them.
The transfer window doesn’t open until February 2011, but West officials are hosting informational sessions now for parents and prospective IB students. Forums will be held at the school Dec. 14 and Jan. 27.
School officials have set an admissions process that will include assessment of students’ math readiness and reading level.
“It’s going to be a selective process because we anticipate to have more transfer applicants than we have spaces,” said Shannon Siebe, West’s IB diploma program coordinator.
