Knox County changes sex-ed procedure

Outside agencies will no longer be able to provide information to students about human sexuality under a decision made public Friday by Knox County Schools Superintendent Jim McIntyre.
The presentations will be conducted by the district’s health educators and members of the Knox County Health Department.
Because the decision comes in the middle of the academic year, previously scheduled presentations by independent groups will be allowed to take place so as not to disrupt teachers’ plans and class schedules, McIntyre said in a memo to school board members.
“We think we’re in a strong position for our educators to do that job effectively with the support of the Health Department,” McIntyre said Friday.
