How to spot the right "robot" for your needs?

There a lots of models, lots of brands, which one is a good one.

Generally speaking, there are no bad computers nowadays. But there are fast ones and slower ones. All depends on what you put inside the computer shell.
Before deciding on a stuffing for your desktop PC or a laptop, think what tasks would you like it to perform?

If you are going to use it for working with regular office applications and surf the web at home or teach your kids computer basics, virtually any mid-range computer will suit you, but there is no need to go for a super last models.

However, if you also want to watch high quality video and/or play games with advanced graphics, you need to see what computer you are taking off the shelf.

Or may be you want to be able to take your PC out, for example, to your friends home or at work, then a laptop is what you need.
It is also a nice option to buy a laptop in any case and use it at home, but add a good regular monitor to comfort your eyes while working at home.

- Top brands on the industry are Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), IBM and Toshiba for PC/Windows platform. If you like to have Macintosh, you buy a PC from Apple.

If you like to have a solid warranty on your laptop or desktop PC, don't shop at the cheap warehouse stores and discounters, where you may get a really cheap machine, but hardly ever a good warranty with it.

- Among all stuffing that your computer will have, focus on:
a) system memory (256 MB or 512 MB preferable) - critical for general PC performance.
b) hard drive capacity - take the biggest one you can afford. No matter how big your drive is, there is always seems not enough space.
c) the processor that will come with your PC;
d) for best graphics and sound experience, focus on sound and graphics cards.

Ask questions and explain your tasks to a sales person in the store, they should be able to find the best option for you and also within your budget limits.

But if you are very serious about buying the right PC or laptop, a good manner would be to get online and learn what manufacturers have to offer and compare characteristics as well as consumer satisfaction levels on every singe computer model that caught your attention.

Also, if you have friends working in computer industry or simply know it well, they may provide you with valuable advice and even help to get the best computer you'll enjoy work with.

If you want a brand computer and warranty, but would like to save some money, ask in the store if they can sell you a demo model.
Works sometimes, of course if you don't mind few scratches and cleaning fingerprints... :)
